A new fast track compensation scheme, launched by leading claimant law firm Russell Jones & Walker and claims specialist company Elision, is set to save the industry up to £1 billion a year in legal costs.

The system, called Claimsense, is the result of 2 years’ consultation between leading insurance companies, legal partners, regulators, unions, the government and the consumer. It is designed to reduce the average time taken for the claims process from 2 years to 3 months.

The launch of Claimsense comes after much debate between the ABI and APIL and the reforming of the current compensation system. It had become clear to the partners in Claimsense that they needed to lead the debate and demonstrate a process that would be acceptable to both the insurance industry and claimant law firms.

Commenting on the launch, Neil Kinsella, managing partner at Russell Jones & Walker said:
"We have listened to the debate by the ABI, APIL, the Law Society, government and the media and heard about so called fast track schemes from all sorts of organisations. The difference between Claimsense and other proposed schemes is that we stopped debating the issues 2 years ago and started designing and delivering a system that clearly provides the benefits all stakeholders desire.

“Russell Jones & Walker were first to recognise that accident victims, law firms, the insurance industry and employers were struggling with a system that is adversarial and dysfunctional. It is the one thing all stakeholders have in common and something needed to change. We believe Claimsense is a system that all stakeholders can use, safe in the knowledge that the service offered is first class. The first test phase of the service will prove that costs can be refined without compromising the claimant or law firms.

“Most importantly Claimsense will encourage the insurance industry to feel comfortable in helping develop a system which is transparent, ensures claimants get fair compensation and rehabilitation more quickly, and clearly shows unnecessary costs are being removed from the process. We all win and I am proud that Claimsense shows the way forward for the sector.”

Adrian Maurice, Managing Director of Elision added:
"The system we have developed works and has only been achieved by involving all stakeholders in the design of Claimsense. It has taken a lot of courage for both law firms and the insurance industry to be open to the change in business practices that this system demands. It is clear that we can refine costs without diminishing the service to claimants and this can only be a good thing for all concerned.

“Claimsense is guided by an industry advisory board made up of leading individuals from the insurance industry, claimant law firms and regulators to ensure that as the system develops it continues to do what it was originally designed to do - ensure claimants get fair compensation more quickly.”
